Marble is considered to be more elegant and luxurious than other natural stones. Marble will last for generations although it is more susceptible to staining than granite because of its porous nature and relative softness.
Granite is formed from molten magma and therefore is more durable than marble. Granite is more resistant to staining, abrasions and discoloration. Granite is the most dense and strong of the natural stones that would be used for tables.
There are two categories of granite: Consistent and Variegated
Consistent: has the same pattern through the slab. Consistent granite slabs are easier to join together because of the lack of a varied pattern.
Variegated: has movement or veining through the slab and in turn are harder to join together.
