It is important that your colleagues have enough space between each other to feel comfortable in a boardroom setting. We have broken space down into four general categories depending on your needs. While most users will find that 36″ per person is perfectly appropriate and comfortable for a boardroom table other users might find that they need more or less space depending on the intended use of the table or the size of the conference room.
Luxury = 48″ per person
If space is abundant and you are trying to create a grand atmosphere, 48″ per person would be appropriate. In most instances, 48″ would be on the excessive side.
Computer and Documents = 42″ per person
If each user is going to be using a computer and have documents laid out, 42″ per person is an appropriate amount of space. In most conference room environments this would be ample space for each user.
Comfortable = 36″ per person
36″ per person is considered the normal amount of space needed. In a typical boardroom conference table environment this amount of space is perfectly appropriate.
Bare Minimum = 30″ per person
If the conference room is tight on space then you might be forced into only giving 30″ per person. If this is the case, then you have to be especially selective in which chairs you choose. Please keep in mind that 30″ is the bare minimum for each person to feel comfortable.
